The Amazing Chart: A fortnight in the Driving seat

May 4th, 2011

Every Sunday evening, Charlie Ashcroft counts down the Amazing Chart across the UK’s national DAB network on Amazing Radio. Here he is to give us the very latest lowdown on the last week’s movers and shakers from amazingtunes.com.

Hello! Having stormed to the top of the Amazing Chart last week, Leeds band Bear Driver have held on to the Number 1 spot for a second week with their glorious slice of indie pop, Enemy. The band’s next live show is this coming Friday at The MacBeth in Hoxton.

Two weeks on top: Bear Driver

Elsewhere in the Top 3, we’ve had a massive climb of 38 places from London trio Les Mistons, only a couple of weeks since they were played on Amazing Radio’s Audition show, while A Genuine Freakshow have also rocketed up the countdown, climbing 11 places from last week’s Number 14 spot.

Fresh from being praised by the Guardian, Cosmo Jarvis remains at Number 4, with Ryan Kelly rounding off the Top 5 with Go If You Want To still in contention after nearly two months inside the Top 20.

Climbing into the Top 20: The Heartbreaks

The Top 10 welcomes London duo AlunaGeorge and Teeside folksters Cattle & Cane for the first time this week, while there are other big climbs further down from this week’s Amazing Sessions guests Sissy & The Blisters at Number 15, closely followed by The Heartbreaks, Middleman, Sketches and Royal Treatment Plant inside the Top 20.

The New Entries come thick and fast once you get outside the Top 30, with London beats troupe Leftstepband landing at Number 31 with The Deep End, just ahead of newbies from Jukebox Collective, Auction For The Promise Club, You Animals, The Patrick James Pearson Band, Various Cruelties and Orange Avenue.
