On Hiatus

June 18th, 2012

A new week means we can bring a load more things new, emerging and awesome, to your ears, starting with our new Artist of the WeekHiatus

We’ve previously played the gorgeous Fortunes Fool a few months back, and we currently can’t get enough of Change Up so we thought it was high time we gave his work the showcase it deserves! Georgie spoke to Cyrus on Wednesday’s show – listen to the complete interview here!

We’ve also got a new Track of the Week from Disclosure called Boiling! Listen to it on repeat at your leisure below:

Tumblr fun this week comes from ANIMALS TALKING IN ALL CAPS. Cute animals, silly captions, it’s what the internet was invented for. Here’s an example, and one of Georgie’s favourites:

“ARE NOT THE THOUGHTS OF THE DYING OFTEN TURNED TOWARD THE PRACTICAL, PAINFUL, OBSCURE, VISCERAL ASPECT? TOWARD THE SEAMY SIDE OF DEATH WHICH IS, AS IT HAPPENS, THE SIDE THAT DEATH ACTUALLY PRESENTS TO THEM AND FORCES THEM TO FEEL, AND WHICH FAR MORE CLOSELY RESEMBLES A CRUSHING BURDEN, A DIFFICULTY IN BREATHING, A DESTROYING THIRST, THAN THE ABSTRACT IDEA TO WHICH WE ARE ACCUSTOMED TO GIVE THE NAME OF DEATH?”

… Danny, what the hell?

I’M SORRY. I MEANT “THANK YOU, THIS IS A WONDERFUL PARTY.”

As ever, we inducted some more bearded heroes into our Beard Gallery – this week it’s the turn of former Artist of the Weekthe White Album! They describe themselves as having ‘big beards and very big hearts’ which, frankly, we love. Guys, we salute you.

A GOOD REP

June 11th, 2012

This week sees a fusion between Georgie and Georgia – Athens, Georgia, that is! Hailing from that very city, Artist of the Week this week is the excellent Reptar!

You’ve probably heard the insanely catchy Stuck in My Id and new single Sebastian on the airwaves, so we couldn’t resist featuring them while they were over for a brief sojourn! Listen to the band in conversation with Georgie!

Our brand new Track of the Week is the return of Beat Connection! The Palace Garden 4AM will be getting a spin every day this week, but you can also listen to it at your leisure below!

Our random tumblr of the week is a bit more serious than last week’s fun with Ca$hCats - we thought we go a little bit arty! Gavin Hammond is a bit of a creative polymath, but we really dig his pictures of London reflected in puddles, and think you might too. Check out the Gherkin!

This week the bearded gent we honour by inducting into the Beard Gallery is the many beards of Brad Pitt! Brad loves to be bearded, and we love beardy Brad. Reportedly his kids didn’t recognise him once when he shaved off his beard, but he’s doing a pretty good job of being incognito with one, so it’s easy to believe!

For more examples of beardy Brad brilliance, head over to the Beard Gallery!

Hundreds and Thousands

June 4th, 2012

It’s a new week, and we’ve got a smorgasbord of delicious new and emerging music for you to enjoy over your own amazing breakfast.

Our brand new Artist of the Week takes the form of The Hundred In The Hands! We recently featured Keep it Low as our Track of the Week and we couldn’t resist collaring them while they were in the country for a chat and a preview of some album tracks. Listen to Georgie in conversation with Jason and Eleanore from the band:

We’ve got a new Track of the Week from ExitMusic called the Night – listen to it below and see what you think!

On Monday’s show Georgie spoke to Kris, who’s the founder of awesome cancer charity CoppaFeel about fantastic all-dayer FestiFeelCoppaFeel is a charity established to educate women between 18-30 about the importance of checking their boobs – head on over to the website for more information! FestiFeel was an all-day event compered by Georgie – check out the poster to see who you missed out on – and get a feeling for the sort of awesome events Kris and her team will be organising in the future!

As ever we’ve got some awesome randomness for your delectation as well – our tumblr this week is the brilliantly random Ca$hCatspictures of cats, with cash. So cute! So Rich! So Random! This one is a particular favourite:

Of course we also welcomed a new addition to the Beard Gallery – this week we thought we’d welcome the lustrous locks and well-kept beards of the Travelling Band!

It’s been a long time coming. A really long time. With this very morning seeing the release of their debut album An Awesome Wave it seems a fitting moment to introduce (Alt-J) as our Artist of the Week!

We loved Matilda, we loved Tesselate, we loved Fitzpleasure, and most recently of all, we loved Breezeblockspretty much, it’s safe to say WE LOVE (ALT-J)! Georgie spoke to the band when we were recently down at the Great Escape – watch her in conversation with Joe, Gwil and Gus:

We thought for this week’s Track of the Week we’d give you some of the catchiest pop around from Charli XCX – she’s absurdly young, absurdly talented, and this is absurdly catchy. Listen to it on repeat below:

This week’s random tumblr is the fantastic awesome people hanging out together. Pretty much exactly how you’d expect, but there’s some fun combinations that you wouldn’t expect – Tom Waits, David Bowie, and Bette Midler? Why not!

We’ve also inducted a new beardy hero into our Beard Gallery! This week we went classic – how can we go any further without getting the ginger voluminous beards of ZZ Top in the gallery? We can’t. So here they are:

Electric Guests

May 21st, 2012

It’s been a week since we came off DAB, which isn’t ideal, as it means fewer people can catch a taste of the back catalogue of our Artist of the Week, the unfeasibly cool Electric Guest!

Of course, if you want to change that, you can sign the petition here and even show your support via the medium of these snazzy t-shirts – it’s up to you of course, and even though we’ve been overwhelmed and really touched by the comments and support received already, everything counts, and everything is appreciated!

Back to the music, though! As we said, this week’s Artist of the Week are the excellent Electric Guest – fresh from recording their album Mondo with Dangermouse, we wanted to showcase it across the week and catch up with singer Asa! Listen to Georgie and Asa in conversation:

Of course we also have a new Track of the Week from two artists who we’ve loved in equal measure separately…UNTIL NOW. Both from Manchester, both frustratingly mysterious (though it only adds to the allure!) both incredibly talented purveyors of some of the most exciting music we’ve heard in the last year. We can only be talking about Stay+ and NO CEREMONY///! (Well, we could also be talking about M O N E Y as well, but that’s one for us to daydream about at this stage) At any rate – they’ve teamed up and the result is incredibly special. Feast you ears on Eyes:

As ever we’ve been talking all things daft tumblrs, and this week we thought we’d turn the (begrudging) giggles up to 11 with the Bad Dad Jokes tumblr! We’re big fans of terrible dad-type jokes, so we’ve been loving some of the gags on here.

We’ve also inducted new members into our Beard Gallery! This week we thought it a good opportunity to welcome in some folks whose beautiful beards impressed us down at the Great Escape – but with a very specific twist – it’s the ginger collection! We met the excellent band Yukon Blonde on our travels down in Brighton, and we couldn’t resist giving them the props they deserve for such excellent beards!

Back at the normal time, with all the usual shenanigans in store! The Artist of the Week for your delectation is the wonderful Me & My Drummer.

Having recently featured You’re a Runner as a Track of the Week not so long ago, we couldn’t resist getting the band in while they were in the country last week. Not only did they have a chat with us, but they also recorded three exclusive acoustic tracks which are going to melt your heart! Here they are in action performing ‘You’re a Runner‘:
