After becoming only the third artist in Amazing Chart history to achieve a second Number 1, Californian sisters HAIM have voiced their joy at being top of the pile once again.

With the news that Forever repeated the success of Better Off by reaching the top of our chart on Sunday evening, the band took to Twitter to describe their elation.

HAIM have followed in the footsteps of Kyla La Grange, who scored 3 Number 1 hits last year and Daughter (twice a chart-topper in 2011), all while securing their place as one of the most talked-about new bands on the planet in the past few months.

It’s been an impressive year for Alt-J thus far and it just keeps getting better as they secure their first Amazing Radio chart number 1.

Having toured with Wild Beasts and Ghostpoet as the main support act across the UK (as well as playing a string of headline shows earlier this year), Alt-J have built up a huge following around the country of people eager to receive a follow-up to the double AA side single Matilda/Fitzpleasure, released in January.

Earlier this month, the band finally released their first extensive effort An Awesome Wave, a compilation of downbeat intricate melodies and delicate vocal harmonies, broken down and separated by a handful of short interludes. An Awesome Wave is a special album, to say the least.

To accompany the release, the Cambridge four-piece embarked upon a UK tour, showcasing the album in a number of intimate venues across the country. The tour was a chance for the band to debut some of their album tracks live, as well as a chance for fans of the band to catch them in smaller venues before their inevitable rise to bigger and better things.

The guys called into Amazing Radio to record a couple of tracks for us on the eve of their sold-out Cluny 2 show in Newcastle. You can already see the Tessellate video on The Amazing Sessions page and on Wednesday we’ll unveil the second of the tracks they performed, the rather wonderful Something Good.  In the meantime, Greg Porter of Amazing Afternoons caught up with the band after their session, to discuss the overwhelming success of their debut LP, as well as their festival plans for the summer and their obscure fast food preferences… Check it out.

Hello! We’ve got a brand new chart-topper this week, with London singer-songwriter Lianne La Havas hitting the heights with Forget in the immediate aftermath of her new EP release. Fresh being announced as part of The Great Escape line-up in Brighton, Lianne has scored her first ever Amazing Chart Number 1 and becomes the first female Londoner to do so since Daughter hit the top in October last year.

This means that Friend Crush by Friends has slipped a couple of places after a fortnight on top, with Swiss Lips glued to the Number 2 spot for a third consecutive week. Slightly further down, Django Django and Monogold have risen further this week, with Default and Spirit Or Something climbing to Number 4 and Number 7 respectively.

This week sees eight (yep, EIGHT) new arrivals inside the Top 20. Oxford band Jonquil have the highest-placed of them all with It’s My Part at Number 12, while Lucy Rose, NZCA/Lines, Midnight Lion, Holy Esque, The Reads, First Aid Kit and Alt-J are all close behind in the rundown, all liable to climb further come Sunday.

Hello! It’s another week at Number 1 for Friend Crush by Friends in the Amazing Chart this time around, with the Brooklyn five-piece going from strength to strength ahead of an undoubtedly busy year. Despite tweeting that they don’t really mind how high they are in our rundown, the fact remains that they’ve held off the attentions of Swiss Lips and Dry The River once again.

Slightly further down, Devin and Vanbot have made their first ever appearances inside the Top 5, while Django Django have grabbed this week’s Highest New Entry with Default at Number 7.

Elsewhere in the realm of new arrivals inside the Top 20, Amazing Breakfast’s Artist of the Week Tennis have landed at Number 8 with Origins, while we also welcome Monogold, Horse Thief, Simian Ghost and Eeves to the fold. Click here to see the Amazing Chart Top 40 in full.

Hello! Hot on the heels of the single being released here in the UK, Friend Crush by Friends has topped the Amazing Chart. The band have enjoyed some sell-out gigs in Manchester and London over the past seven days and will be making a return trip to UK shores in May to get their festival season started with an appearance at The Great Escape.

Their rise to the top means that Swiss Lips have fallen a place with U Got The Power, joined in the Top 3 this week by Oslo’s finest, Team Me. Slightly further down, Londoners The Ghosts and We Have Band have both entered the Top 5 for the very first time, while Devin and Howler are also on the up with maiden entries into the Top 10.

In the realm of New Entries, Lianne La Havas scores her second consecutive Amazing Chart hit with Forget having landed at Number 13, while Errors and Vanbot have made their chart bows inside the Top 20 with Pleasure Palaces and Make Me, Break Me respectively.
