Sunless 97 – Making Waves EP (Abeano Music)

Latest London lot to have everyone clamouring over their laptops – Sunless 97 are ex members of uber good bands (Larrikin Love anyone?) and yet this is something completely different. With boy/girl vocals that draw you in as they melt into one – as opposed to fighting for presidence within the track, their debut E.P Making Waves (out on Abeano) is a masterclass in expertly constructed, multi-layered bliss. They’re supporting the live debut of Warp signed musical wonderkid Kwes tonight, that’s over at The Shacklewell Arms (London) and we strongly recommend you go.

La Shark — Magazine Cover (Single. Popular Recordings)

Speaking of super cool London kids, La Shark are right up there with their latest release ‘Magazine Cover’ – providing a much needed kick up the arse to all of the lo-fi-surf-pop-chill-kids still in their summer haze – La Shark deal in 4 minute blasts of upbeat weirdo-joy, and we love it. They launch the single at the Electricity Showrooms over in Hoxton tonight, with an excellent DJ lineup from the likes of The Maccabees too.

Frankie & the Heartstrings – Everybody Looks Better in the Right Light (Pop Sex/Wichita)

Still going strong, Frankie and The Heartstrings are back from touring Australia and onto this, their latest single from acclaimed debut album Hunger. Currently on tour with The Vaccines, they then have a fair few dates lined up over the festive period too. Be sure to catch them in your hometown, where you can see for yourself what all the fuss is about!

Dum Dum Girls – Always Looking (Sub-Pop)

These guys have been on tour for what seems like forever now – most recently with fellow amazingtunes.com artist Veronica Falls here in the U.K. Always Looking is the latest single from their much lauded Lp Only In Dreams, serving to further demonstrate the albums reputation as being their best, most mature, to date.

Kill it Kid – Wild & Wasted Waters (One Little Indian)

Bringing a new twist to the blues-rock staple – Kill It Kid have gradually been gigging their way through the U.K with backing from the guys at One Little Indian. Earning a solid fanbase along the way, this is their third single from second album ‘Feet Fall Heavy’ and a further progression into their blues based sound. It’s also a double A-Side with All To Me as it’s counterpart.

Whales in Cubicles – We Never Win (Young & Lost Club)

We love the Young and Lost Club here at Amazing – you can count on them to be ahead of the curve, and always reliable with their choices. This new track from London based Whales In Cubicles is further proof of just that. The single is out on vinyl and is limited to 300 copies, so be quick! All pre – orders of the release come with a free digital copy so fear not.

Fool’s Gold – The Dive

Out on I Am Sound Records, Fools Gold continue with their laid back assault on the existing stereotype of your typical ‘LA Band.’ Tipped for success way back in 2009, and beginning life as a sideproject, The Dive is inherently summery and yet not remotely disposable. When asked about their African and World Music influences, they likened their sound to “…kind of like as if Congotronics were fronted by Morrissey.” There you go.

Binary – Prisoner (Luv Luv Records)

Debut single by new London four piece Binary – they’re already off to a great start via label LuvLuvLuv – and have gained a fair amount of attention via an exclusive remix from Light Asylum too. The single launch itself is over at Visions Video Bar, in Dalston, with S.C.U.M on the 8th December.

New Releases: 21/11/2011

November 21st, 2011

Release of the week from Lianne La Havas, the long-awaited release of Daughter‘s debut EP and a ton of great singles from Bos Angeles, Breton, Three Trapped Tigers and Worship.

Lianne La Havas – Lost & Found EP (Labour of Love)

Someone we think will be appearing on a number of ‘Ones to Watch 2012′ lists in the coming weeks, Lianne La Havas‘ delicate voice has already won over the likes of Willy Mason who appears on the lead track, No Room For Doubt with her.

Daughter – Wild Youth EP (Communion Records)

Simply one of the most beautiful voices we’ve heard this year. We’ve been following Elena Tonran since we first played Run nearly twelve months ago. On the Wild Youth EP she’s complemented her voice with subtle instrumentation that elevates the track beyond the original demos we fell in love with.

Bos Angeles – Beach Slalom (Roundtable Records)

Bos Angeles are in that much-coveted/difficult position of being one of the internet’s buzziest bands the latter half of 2011. But with good reason; Beach Slalom is a nostalgic trip through fuzzy surf pop and it is beyond charming.

Being There – Radio/Back to the Future (Young and Lost Club)

Like Bos Angeles, this is lo-fi, nostalgia-tinged pop. There’s a West Coast vibe in here – in the vein of Letting Up Despite Great Faults – belying the fact that they’re actually from London. But if you close your eyes and pretend you’re on an LA boardwalk it doesn’t really matter.

Breton – Edward the Confessor (Fat Cat)

Breton unleash their razor sharp, raw electronic sound for the release of Edward the Confessor in anticipation for their debut album which will drop in February next year.

Three Trapped Tigers – Reset (Blood and Biscuits)

The most polished track that Three Trapped Tigers have gifted us. But after they tease you with grown up instrumental rock, it grows into the huge monster we know and love. With viracious drums, growing atmospheric vocals and that signature synth sound. Also, the video for this track has Matt Berry in it. Yep, Matt Berry of The IT Crowd fame. And it’s brilliant.

Worship – House of Glass (Killing Moon Limited)

These have the potential to be massive. They already sound like a band who’ve been together for a decade. Commercial enough for your average indie fan (you know, the one who loves Editors and secretly owns all the Coldplay records), but it’s also a little bit dark with subtle electronica and intriguing vocals.

Woo Woos – Fizzy Lettuce (Moshi Moshi)

I mean, it sounds a little bit like Sugababes… But Sugababes were actually pretty good once. And so is this.

Teeth – U R 1 (Moshi Moshi)

Taken from the recently released debut album, UR1 is effervescent electronica.

New Releases: 07/11/2011

November 7th, 2011

Single of the week from Zulu Winter as well as a return for We Have Band and Summer Camp‘s second single from Welcome to Condale.

Zulu WinterNever Leave (Double Denim)

If you’re still not convinced that Double Denim is the UK’s best new record label, then you’ve not been paying attention. Their last release was from one of our bands of the year, Outfit, and their next release is with Jesse Ruins. JESSE RUINS! Also in the back catalogue over the last 18 months are Christian Aids, Seapony, Blackbird Blackbird and Body Language.

We’re getting carried away. Their latest release is the equally excitement-worthy Zulu Winter. It’s a double- A-side and it’s quite simply sublime. With the A-side, Never Leave, there’s a swirling sense of urgency in the tribal rythms and intelligent vocals before it dances into the chorus. The AA-side, Let’s Move Back to Front takes us more into Grizzly Bear territory with reverb-laden guitars and vocals. Upon multiple listens (there will be many), it’s Let’s Move Back to Front that emergest as the strongest for us. But buy it and make your own mind up.

Out today on Double Denim on 7″ and digital download.

Summer Camp – Down (Moshi Moshi)

It doesn’t slap you in the face like Better Off Without You but it’s familiar warm-pop territory from Summer Camp. Out today on Moshi Moshi Records it’s the second single from new album, Welcome to Condale.

We Have Band – Visionary (Naive)

It’s a welcome return for We Have Band who are promising a new album in 2012. The first offering, Visionary, has gotten us very excited. It’s rhythmic and with all the weird nuances you would expect!

D/R/U/G/S – Connected (Tender Age)

An early-morning chilled trance track. It’s 4am. Most people have gone home. People are passed out on sofas. There’s a couple making out in the corner. This song is playing.

Cloud Control – Death Cloud (Infectious)

This is a soaring beast of a track from Cloud Control. A little more aggressive than previous offerings but with all the alt-pop hooks that make up the distinctive Cloud Control sound.

Fanzine – Roman Holiday (Fat Possum)

Wonderfully lo-fi fuzzyness. There’s hints of 90s indie hiding behind the fuzz too. And a guitar solo. A guitar solo! Like a proper old-school one.

Weird Dreams – Holding Nails (Tough Love Records)

A languid vocal reminiscent of Phoenix‘s Thomas Mars, backed by a 60′s rock and roll band. It’s more than a little charming.

Albums out today

Ali Renault – Ali Renault (Cyber Dance)

My Sad Captains – Fight Less Win More (Stolen Recordings)
