amazing - you heard it here first

On the show today we’ve got Natalie McCool in conversation with Ruth. We’ve been playing you a different session track each day so far this week, and today we’ll be playing you an exclusive track from her album called ‘Thin Air’.

We’ve also got more great videos for you to waste some time watching. So take a break from whatever you’re doing, grab a cuppa and enjoy!

This is our favourite timewaster so far!

On the show today we’ve got another live session track from our guest this week – Natalie McCool
We’ve also decided to waste time all week. Chris usually does his Friday Timewaster er, on a Friday, but we’re doing it all week and today it’s in the form of this brilliant parody of Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know by some Star Wars geeks. It’s the best thing I’ve seen in ages.

We’re also featuring another gorgeous session track from The Slow Show, another track from our Freeloader EP and some great tunes to get you through the morning as well as more gems from The Other Woman playlist.

This week Amazing Radio have foolishly let me loose on the airwaves as Chris Martin takes a well earned break meaning I’m taking control of mid-mornings. Leaving the cosy confines of The Other Woman on a Sunday evening, daytime is mine for a week and I can’t wait. On today’s show we have the first of our live session tracks recorded especially for the show from young, hip ‘n happenin’ super talented Natalie McCool – Liverpool’s finest. It’s just her and her guitar and gorgeous stuff. She joins us for a full catch up on Wednesday’s show, but we’ll be hearing from her all week. Speaking of live sessions, Manchester’s The Slow Show are our latest Amazing Session, which we’re giving a few spins too. The Freeloader EP will be up online too; 5 tracks across the week which are yours to own for nada. There are also some extra special treats from The Other Woman record box in the shape of Rebecca Jade and The Systematics.

Presented by Ruth Barnes, The Other Woman is the only radio show in the UK with an all-female playlist.

On the show this week we’re thrilled to welcome Rachael Dadd, folk musician based in Bristol and Japan. Rachael is married to a Japanese musician called Ichi who is always a part of her live shows and is a wonder to watch. Together they make beautiful music and Rachael’s solo work is jaw-dropping. She plays piano, guitar, banjo, ukulele and her songs are woven out of stories of love, everyday life and Japanese sushi recipes…

We also catch up with Clare Carter from The Horn The Hunt a firm favourite of ours at the moment. Gold is the new single from this Leeds band and it rocks. Great to see Simon Raymonde giving the B side Lungs a spin last week too. THTH are doing things completely DIY at the moment so need all the help they can get. Go and purchase!

Other new music on our playlist comes courtesy of London band F.U.R.S, Minneapolis three piece Now Now, Austrian indie kids Just Friends and Lovers, Zurich via Tokyo Tim and Puma Mimi and a new single from Sharon Van Etten’s excellent album Tramp. Enjoy!

What a show this week! Pretty much ALL NEW tracks to amazingtunes.com and to The Other Woman. We kick off with two artists who dropped us a tweet earlier in the week – Welsh guitarist and singer Rebecca Jade and one woman looping machine I AM AMITY based in Brighton.

We turn to our TOW correspondent in The North, amazing’s Shell Zenner to bring us our guest interview as she managed to pin down the enigmatic and super cool Jesca Hoop for an interview about her brand new album ‘The House That Jack Built’.

There are also tickets to be won to Hard Rock Calling, to see Soundgarden – raawwwwk! And Deap Vally, they’re the new hipster blues rock duo that everyone (that’s Josh Homme and the NME) loves. It’s a track worthy of all the fuss though, see what you think.

We introduce to you to TLG Magazine, run by Alice Muir out of Glasgow – the UK’s only magazine dedicated to women in electronic music. She’s curating a stage at Sheffield’s new Signals Festival and is definitely someone to get behind.

Oslo’s Susanne Sondfer makes an appearance, as does New York’s Jenny O and Klara Lewis who makes weird and wonderful soundscapes in Sweden. Join us on Sunday!

It’s The Other Woman Midsummer Sale! Why? Because it’s Midsummer and the ‘summer’ is officially a wash out, so we’ve strung together the best free downloads from Amazing Tunes like non-Jubilee-themed bunting to brighten up your world.

Our favourites from the past six months including Mary Epworth, Hysterical Injury, Dreama, The Systematics, Icons of Andria, The Spook School are all featured in the show, and yes, they are ALL available for free.

If you missed the show on Sunday, don’t worry, the tracks are all still free and you can listen to the show here;

Crack open the picnic basket, indoors of course, listen to the show on Rewind and raise a glass whilst listening to two hours of great new music that’s yours for FREE!
