Jack ‘Lesser’ Lewis’ AWESOME Energy

June 13th, 2012

Hello to you. It’s DC here, I wanted to share a few of the best bits from this week’s show. A few days ago I had the pleasure of a visit (after some unfortunate shenanigans with their van) from Jack ‘Lesser’ Lewis’ Awkward Energy. Here’s a picture of us to prove it!

We were joined by the Middle Ones (the two lovely ladies who are misleadingly on the right, not the middle) who performed backing vocals and percussion on Summertime Called which you can watch below!

I also did an interview with Jack, which was actually a fair bit longer than the version we broadcast, so here it is in full!

This week’s theme was graffiti – and there was one really awesome track I found which had lyrics composed entirely of graffiti from a bathroom stall, but there were a few too many questionable language choices, so I couldn’t exactly play it on air, but if you’re an adult with a sense of humour, you ought to enjoy Debbie Miller‘s Snippets From a Bathroom Stall!

At the very end of the show, Ma Charlton reminded me of some awesome graffiti we saw in Venice. I’m pleased to report Venice is a No Nazi Zone.

On this week’s show I also composed a haiku, in honour of how much I enjoyed Haiku Salut’s ‘Vowels As Clear As Church Bells’. I looked into it, and it turns out there’s loads of rules and grand traditions involved in composing a proper Japanese haiku (many of which I failed to incorporate, so I won’t post the Japanese one) which is why it’s such a revered art from. I’ve been to Matsuo Bashō ‘s crib in Iga. I felt this gave me ample qualification to turn my hand to it.

So I did, but it was pretty terrible. 6th Form Poets across the country scoffed in unison. It took me a good 5 – 10 minutes, though so here it is, for you to enjoy forever.

flowers are falling –

death is just the beginning

summer is coming

It sounds slightly more poetic in Japanese (if hugely incorrect, grammatically speaking) but I probably shouldn’t have tried to write it in that language first. These are lessons I can learn from – perhaps you can look forward to more terrible amateur poetry in next week’s show!
