Our Tips For Tramlines Festival

July 19th, 2012

This Friday marks the start of one of the very best inner-city festivals the UK has to offer – with over 70 venues and hundreds of artists, Tramlines in Sheffield is surely the only place to be this weekend.

We will of course be there, splitting ourselves 4 ways to bring you the most eclectic coverage we can. So to save you the stress of poring over your clash checkers later on tonight, we thought we’d give you a handy list of our hotly tipped bands from this year’s line-up. See you down the front!

Alt – J

Our love for these guys is hardly a secret, we’ve been fans for the longest time and we’re so excited to have them come in as part of The Amazing Sessions. Their debut album An Awesome Wave is one of the best of the year and their live show doesn’t disappoint either. They’ll be huge, and deservedly so. A must see.

AlunaGeorge

We saw these guys support Friends on their recent tour and they were excellent. Doing something completely different, they manage to combine Aluna’s incredible vocal with purposefully laid back production and create music that we didn’t even know we were missing.

Spector

With what promises to be one of the best debut albums of the last few years, Spector have more than justified their initial hype-laden reviews. Catch them on Friday and prepare to be impressed.

The Crookes

Former Record Of The Week here at Amazing Radio, The Crookes have gone from strength to strength over these past couple of years and the new album is fantastic. Blessing Tramlines with not one, but two hometown shows, they’re sure to have one of the best atmospheres of the entire weekend. You can see them headline Academy 2 on the Friday, and play a tiny 100 capacity show at The Shakespeare on the Saturday night too.

Theme Park

We’re all a little bit in love with Theme Park here at Amazing Radio. Their day with us at The Amazing Sessions produced this live version of Jamaica – quickly becoming one of our favourite tracks of the year. They’ve somehow managed to make us feel incredibly summery for these past couple of months, which, let’s face it, is no mean feat. They headline the Bowery on Saturday night – don’t miss it.

The Neat

Ever since this four piece from Hull uploaded their snarling, hook-heavy single Hips to amazingtunes.com we’ve been singing their praises. Latest track ‘New Kids‘ shows their versatility as a band and we’re already looking forward to hearing what they do next.

Lulu James

Beats and bass Goddess from the North East, she wowed us with her live set up at Evolution Emerging and has been impressing audiences all across the UK since late 2011. Definitely one to watch.

Swim Deep

Birmingham’s bright young things Swim Deep have been touring solidly throughout 2012, selling out 99% of the venues on the way. Incredibly young, incredibly talented, and responsible for King City – one of the most exciting new sounds we’ve come across.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, there are countless other artists who we love and support playing throughout the weekend, so do make sure you check out the full line up here.
