Shell Zenner Explores Music Robot

July 30th, 2012

Shell Zenner caught up with Mike Bradford, founder of Brighton based blog The Recommender and Community Manager behind an exciting new music discovery service, Music Robot. The website is a blog collective made up of a hand-selected group of UK bloggers. Think of it like the Hype Machine, only more beautiful and featuring writers exclusively from the UK. It aggregates each of the bloggers’ posts and displays them in a sexy carousel of new music. You can then create a profile and vote things into their chart. You can hear Shell’s chat with Mike in full below.

The blogs chosen are the cream of the UK blogeratti. In Mike’s own words: “What we’ve done is reach out to 18 of what we think are the established UK music blogs. It’s not every blog but we’ve picked 18 of what we think are at the top. All are from the UK and it’s their content, their music, the artists that they’re writing about that we pull onto our front page.” The collective reads like a who’s who of the music blogs we frequent on a daily basis for our own playlists so we can highly recommend their inclusions.

“Music blogs are a key part of music discovery now. For the industry and for the public. We are a new layer of underground music. We think that [the chosen blogs] have a level of importance in that layer.

It’s a brilliant initiative to raise the profile of music blogging and new and emerging music as whole. We whole-heartedly get behind this and are excited to see how it develops.
