The Welsh Music Prize (Gwobr Gerddoriaeth Gymreig) was set up last year by SWN Festival music gurus Huw Stephens and John Rostron.  As well as crowning an album of the year, it shines a light on the finest releases from Welsh artists in the previous 12 months.

With the Prize now entering its second year, we’re pleased to announced that Amazing Radio’s Bethan Elfyn has once again been chosen as a member of the judging panel for 2012. The news comes hot on the heels of her Welsh music special which aired last week, which you can still listen to via Amazing Rewind.

Far from concentrating solely on her native Wales though, Bethan is back on Amazing Radio tonight with a 2-hour special dedicated to Scandinavian music. She’ll be joined in the studio by regular It’s Amazing guest and Ja Ja Ja Nordic editor Rich Thane, who you may also know as the man behind The Line Of Best Fit.

Join them from 7pm tonight or catch the repeat on Friday 10th February from 1pm.

You can keep up to date with the latest goings on from The Bethan Elfyn Show here.

Hello! Our first Amazing Chart round-up for February sees us reflecting on another week of success for Manchester band Swiss Lips, who’ve stayed on top of our rundown for a second consecutive Sunday with their uber-catchy hit U Got The Power.

They’ve managed to hold on to the top spot in the face of some stiff competition this time around, with New York’s Friends rocketing to Number 2 on the eve of the UK release of Friend Crush, proving to be the biggest climbers inside the Top 20 as well as the Mancunian chart toppers’ closest competitors in the past seven days.

Climbing up to Number 2 this week: Friends

Jethro Fox remains in contention in the leading pack after over a month in the rundown, while The Collectable Few and Sharon van Etten have both continued their upward momentum to move into the Top 5 for the very first time. Slightly further behind, Team MeThe Ghosts and We Have Band have carried on making inroads inside our Top 10.

In terms of brand new entries inside the Top 20, Southend band Hoodlums have the highest of the lot with recent single Dark Horses landing at Number 12, while we also welcome Amazing Radio favourites Devin and Howler to the fold, both looking likely to climb further up the chart as the UK snow begins to thaw.

Arguably one of the catchiest songs in rotation on Amazing Radio at the moment, our new Number 1 is an upbeat, memorable track which channels the spirit of MGMT and Passion Pit alongside an appreciation for an undeniable pop hook.

Congratulations to Manchester band Swiss Lips, who’ve risen four places with their track U Got The Power to claim the crown from Jethro Fox this week, fresh from signing their first ever record deal!

We’ve also had some hefty climbs in the Top 10 this week from Bear Driver, The Collectable Few and Sharon van Etten, while Norwegians Team Me also climb to their highest position yet with the wonderfully-named taster from their To The Treetops! album called With My Hands Covering Both Of My Eyes I Am Too Scared To Have A Look At You Now.

“What about New Entries?” I hear you cry. Well, in terms of brand new arrivals inside the Top 20, we’ve got three of them this week. The highest comes from Friends at Number 13 with Friend Crush, a few notches ahead of a couple of recent singles from Dry The River and We Have Band to complete our rundown.

Hello! Plenty of action around the upper reaches of the Amazing Chart this week, with Liverpool-based songwriter Jethro Fox having climbed to the top of the pile with Before after four weeks inside the Top 20. As with previous Number 1 songs in 2012, it has the kind of effortless, summery feel which has us dreaming of the warmer months with the year barely a month old.

Los Angeles producer Dreams slips a place from last week’s top spot, while Work Drugs have made a big leap into the Top 3 from last week’s Number 9 placing. Elsewhere in the Top 10, Swiss Lips, Foe and The Collectable Few have all rocketed into the Top 10 having had New Entries last week.

This week’s new arrivals in the Top 20 come from Birmingham rapper Lady Leshurr at Number 7, Norwegian indie-poppers Team Me at Number 12 and a cluster of quality in the lower reaches from Sharon van Etten, The Ghosts, Gross Magic and Paul Thomas Saunders.

On a final, remarkable note, the entire Top 5 this week are available as free downloads from amazingtunes.com. Fill your boots here.

Well, well, well. It’s a brand new week and we’ve got a brand new Number 1. In a week where five of the artists nestled inside the Top 10 are from the US, the odds were probably stacked in favour of us having an American at the top, but you could argue that it’s one of the more grassroots offerings which has hit the summit this time around.

Los Angeles-based producer Dreams, real name Jesse Pimenta, has climbed two places to score his first Amazing Chart topper, with the title track of his Feelings 4 U EP providing us with some summery disco funk in the height of winter. He becomes the first American to top our chart since Azealia Banks back in December.

Both Fractures and Alpine slip a place inside the Top 3, while there are some decent climbs further down from Jethro Fox, Work Drugs and Craft Spells as they make their first appearances inside the Top 10.

Former chart toppers Bear Driver are back in the rundown for the first time since last summer with new single Never Never, while Foe, Swiss Lips and The Collectable Few are the other new arrivals inside the Top 20 this week.

After taking a week off to make way for our end-of-year Chart of 2011 over New Year, the regular weekly Amazing Chart returned to the airwaves on Sunday with news of a second consecutive week at Number 1 for London band Fractures and their song Nicotine.

With fierce competition for places just behind them in the shape of former chart-toppers Alpine and Los Angeles producer Dreams, the Londoners should be applauded for making it a fortnight on top. Chart stalwarts Family Of The Year and Azealia Banks complete the Top 5.

Slightly further behind, there’s more upward movement from Spector, Dad Rocks and Jethro Fox, while Work Drugs and Porcelain Raft have made their chart debuts in the Top 20.
