Festival Report: SXSW

March 14th, 2012

So South By South West is upon us once again! For the uninitiated, it’s the biggest new-music showcase festival in the world. It hijacks Austin, Texas annually and transforms it into a buzzing hive of the most exciting new artists. The entire music industry descends on the town and it’s the reason why ‘out-of-office’ replies are the only activity in our inboxes for a week. Some would call that blissful. We call it jealousy.

Luckily we have our own reporter on the scene! New recruit, Shell Zenner is out in Texas right now watching bands and drinking in the buzz. She’s been recording her thoughts and sending them back across to the pond to Chris Martin. If you missed Chris’ show this morning, below is Shell’s first report talking all things SXSW including Gardens and Villa, Caged Animals, Hooray for Earth and a trip to Dinosaur Land (apparently that’s a real thing.)

As well as that, our guest presenter Jo Good (sitting in for Georgie Rogers between 7-9am this week) chatted SXSW with The Telegraph’s Lucy Jones just before she headed off to Texas. A seasoned veteran of the event, Lucy talks us through the festival, what the atmosphere is like and who she’s excited to see this time round.

Shell will return with another report on Chris Martin’s show from 10am tomorrow morning. Shell Zenner starts her own show on the 30th March at 1pm.
