Sound Bites: Live Nation, Coldplay live and Goldie Lookin' Pain

Live events giants Ticketmaster and Live Nation could soon been merging according to various US reports. A history of synergy between the companies, alongside the appointment of a new CEO at ticketmaster have led to the rumors.

Coldplay have announced a forthcoming North American tour. Setting off from Portland, OR on July 10th the tour will take them through the US and Canada. You can see their complete tour schedule here

In some lesser news, Goldie Lookin’ Chain’s P Xain has found time out of his busy schedule to brand current Number One artist Lily Allen “thick as pig ####.” He went on to remark “She’ll say anything to get in the news.” ensuring himself many a column inch in the Daily Star with his misplaced drivelling irony…

Sound Bites: HMV's poll of polls, Bjork, Plant and Rock 'n' Roll

The HMV poll of polls has been released revealing the critics top 50 albums of the year. Elbow walked away convincing winners with their Mercury Prize winning album The Seldom Seen Kid. Portishead’s long awaited release ‘Third’ and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ ‘Dig Lazarus, Dig’ came 2nd and 3rd respectively while Fleet Foxes’ and Vampire Weekend’s eponymous albums made up the rest of the top 5.

Bjork has joined teams with Audur Capitol of Rekjavik in an attempt to encourage investment into Icelandic businesses after the country took a major blow in the global financial crisis. It’s estimated the involvement of Bjork will bring in almost $17 million in investment.

Robert Plant has been voted the greatest rock singer of all time by music fans in a recent Plant Rock organised poll. The Led Zeppelin front man beat off competition from Freddie Mercury of Queen and Free’s Paul Rodgers to the one off gong. You can see the top 20 here.

Where there was Stones there's now an Oasis

Much to the bemusement of many a music fan the ever modest Noel Gallagher has today come out and stated his band are now in the same league as The Rolling Stones. While not quite ‘in the same league’ as Lennon’s rather controversial “bigger than Jesus” admission, it has begged the question of just how dominant are Oasis in today’s music?

Formed 17 years ago they have just released their eighth studio album – selling half a million copies of their last offering Dig Out Your Sole – with all their albums combined selling more than 50 million records. In 2005, The Guinness Book of World Records declared Oasis the Most Successful Act of the Last Decade and last week the Gallagher brothers stood in as the entourage for Ricky Hatton, carrying his title belts to the ring in his recent fight in Las Vegas.

While it can be argued that they haven’t quite reached Keith Richards or Mick Jaggers heights just yet it seems all too easy for us to overlook the size of their achievements to date.
Obviously, you may beg to differ, in which case you’ll probably enjoy these bands on amazingtunes, influenced by The Stones. But for all you nodding Oasis fans, check out some of these and see if you can spot who will ship the next 50m records.
