amazing - you heard it here first

When an un-announced Youan remix first cropped up on amazingtunes.com, Amazing Beats‘  Mark Ryan described it as “world class”. We pricked our ears. We were then graced with the dark, dub beats of Promises. Laced with a pitch-shifted Ciara vocal sample, the track sent nostalgic shivers down our R’n'B loving spines. We were smitten.

Frankly, it’s taken us far too long to commit words to paper about the elusive producer.  He now returns with another deep jam, The Feeling. It’s grimier and darker than previous outings but it ultimately emerges back into that deep bounce layered with effected vocals; a sound that is fast becoming his.

If you’re into SBTRKT or AlunaGeorge you’ll find something you like in this astonishingly promising producer.

Pop is a beautiful thing when it’s done properly. London duo, Bluebell, have mastered it to perfection.

We first played (and fell in love with) Bluebell when Normal Heights was made available online a year back. It has since had a production make-over by Liam Howe (Marina and the Diamonds, Lana Del Rey) elevating the gorgeous pop gem into something magnificently euphoric. The track grows out of Annabel’s sultry, intimate vocal into an almost symphonic crescendo.

Normal Heights is now getting its official physical release through our good friends over at Killing Moon Limited (Worship, Strangers) alongside AA side, Cinderella (featured above). If Normal Heights teased you with Bluebell‘s promise, then Cinderella floors you. It has the confident swagger of an artist going on to huge things. Aggressive synth stabs penetrate the verses before giving way to a thick chorus layered with lush vocal harmonies.

The self-made video for Cinderella (above) is beautiful and nostalgic, featuring footage from Disney films and cut with images sent in from fans.

Normal Heights // Cinderella is out on 11th June through Killing Moon Limited. Check out more from Bluebell at their amazingtunes.com profile.

There are one or two record labels that we trust to be so consistently brilliantly that we know we’ll feature their artists before we even hear them. Cascine is one such label. They have a sound, a vibe, an aesthetic that is laced through every artist that they work with, and their latest release is no different.

With their EP, En Värld I Brand, Swedish duo Ditt Inre have crafted a sound so warm and joyous that you are immediately enveloped into a blissed-out, pulsating, summer haze. Their dream-world of swirling synths and airy Swedish vocals is a truly beautiful place to be.

The EP is expertly designed; parts seem to drift in and out with such precise brilliance. Each element is given space to make its impact before fading away to make room for the next. The texture of sound is deep and satisfying; merging tones in a way that only the Swedish know how.

The track above, Jorden, sits at the heart of En Värld I Brand. It gracefully meanders through vocal swells and melancholic beats towards the high-point of the entire EP; the 3 minute 30 second mark where the most heart-broken Saxophone elevates the track to new levels of beautiful.

En Värld I Brand is out on Tuesday, 29th May on Cascine, and, as you may have guessed, we can’t recommend it enough.

So as The Great Escape festival looms nearer and nearer, excitement is increasing by the day.  And another band on our line up are the five Eagulls. A heavy bass and drum beat drives the pace of their tracks, they are up-tempo and full of energetic passion.

Standout tracks, Songs of Prey and Possessed are angst ridden and raging.  Like balls of rampaging fury, we can’t wait for the Leeds five – piece to explode onto our stage!

Catch them at the Amazing Radio showcase // Queens Hotel // Friday 11th May // 6.30pm. Check out the full line-up here.

After a year of buzz, ignited by last year’s SXSW festival, Reptar‘s debut international single has finally arrived on our metaphorical desk. And it’s every bit as glorious as we imagined.

It’s everything indie-pop should be. Playful, exciting, energetic, and packed with colourful arrangements. With the golden touch of Ben H. Allen’s production (Animal Collective, Gnarls Barkley), the track leaps out at you and by the time you’ve hit the chorus you’re already in love.

The brilliantly entitled EP Oblangle Fizz Y’all is out as a special 7″/CD package for Record Store Day on 21st April via Lucky Number Records.

We’re getting plenty of excellent Scottish musicians through at the moment.

Our very own Jim Gellatly can scarcely move for wonderful music north of the border these days. Proof of Scotland’s musical popularity can even be found in the upper reaches of The Amazing Chart – with current chart-toppers Holy Esque joined in the Top 20 by Midnight Lion, Django Django, Errors and Three Blind Wolves.

While the vast majority of it hails from the Glasgow area, it’s nice to be able to champion the cause of something rather wonderful from Edinburgh in the column too. Step forward ambitious electronic trio Discopolis, whose new single Zenithobia was released on Monday and is a reet treat for the ears.

Fergus, Laurie and Dave deal in washed-out synth-tronica of the highest order, with Zenithobia showcasing the band’s obvious capacity to blend the mildly euphoric with the gently pulsating. They’ve produced four and half minutes of sky-high bliss, perfectly suited for the wee hours. Check out the video here.
