Avec Sans first arrived in this world with an ambitious electro cover of Bon Iver‘s Perth (we were worried too… but it’s really good) and now they return with their first original offering. And it’s every bit as bold and powerful as they hinted at.

Heartbreak Hi begins with a dark synth arpeggio that could have been lifted from the Drive soundtrack before emerging into a glorious pop chorus. The boy-girl duo enter a fairly saturated female-led, synth-pop market of late, alongside the likes of Bluebell, FOE, Charli XCX et al, but with music this strong, there’s always room for one more to make some noise, maybe even dominate it. This is a damn good start.
