Your New Favourite Band #113: Erika Spring

July 4th, 2012

Drifting ever-so slightly away from the blissful synth-pop of Au Revoir Simone, frontwoman Erika Forster (Erika Spring) explores a more aggressive, yet poppier sound with her solo effort, Erika Spring EP.

On debut single Hidden, the drums crash in and immediately announce Erika’s change in pace. Eschewing the lo-fi processed beats of old, the new material feels almost like a release of built up energy. The huge reverberating drums create a wide soundscape allowing the vocals to really grow and make their strongest impact yet. Erika’s voice is recognisably dreamy and effortlessly gorgeous as ever, but now bigger, more immediate.

The EPĀ  is backed by a stunning remix from Jensen Sportag. The remix is every bit as smooth as you’d expect from the Nashville duo. Its disco-funk groove transforms the dream-pop original into another of Jensen Sportag‘s steamy, late -night soundtracks.

Erika Spring is released on 7th July through Cascine, available digitally and on 12″. In the meantime, grab yourself a free download of both tracks direct from the players above.
