Your New Favourite Band #124: All We Are

August 13th, 2012

Liverpool just can’t stop churning out great new music at the moment. I don’t know about you but it seems to me that I can’t tune into Amazing Radio for more than an hour at the moment without hearing Merseyside-made tunes be they from the psychedelic, folk-pop of Stealing Sheep, the pounding anthems of Jethro Fox or Kankouran or else just the straight up garage punk of new addition to the playlist Spring King.

In amongst the smorgasbord of talent sits a cornerstone of Liverpool’s current crop of musical magic… All We Are. Despite having formed little over a year ago, the band already have two EPs and countless tour dates under their belt, all driven by the kind of work ethic and positive outlook that would make most modern musicians grown and pull the duvet over their face. By no means the most talked about band on Merseyside at the moment, nevertheless, All We Are have both the creative spark and the live credentials to be a truly breath-taking proposition whether on record or in the flesh.

Their most recent offering, a four track EP titled We Hunt released earlier this year via Payper Tiger Records, is a heady mix of psychedelic folk complete with shimmering guitar textures, catchy melodies and the type of harmonies that seem to envelope you upon first listen. There’s hint of Sufjan Stevens in places, Death Cab For Cutie in others, but overall the sound that this three-piece create is unique. Trainspotting is an eery piece of ambient, folk pop with gently building guitar parts and the kind of boy-girl vocals and appreciation that sometimes less is more that made the XX‘s debut album so beautifully understated. What’s more, the incredible piece of cinematography that accompanies the track was thought up, directed, shot and edited by the band themselves led by guitarist and film-maker Luis Santos. Meanwhile, the band’s most recent single Cardhouse contains the kind of rousing, gang vocals that make Arcade Fire such a force on the live circuit.

Despite releasing two four-track EPs in the last year alongside tireless gigging everywhere from Norwich to Norway, the band are already in the process of recording towards another release later in the year. Here at amazing, we’re waiting with baited breath.

We Hunt is out now on Payper Tiger and is available to stream on the band’s amazingtunes profile.
