TUNE Alt-J - Pleader
Alt-J release 'PLEADER' via Infectious Records on 20th October 2017 - taken from the Mercury Prize Shortlisted album 'RELAXER'.
alt-J today release their new single ‘Pleader’ and wrap up a short seaside tour of the UK in Weston-super-Mare this evening. The song is the latest to be lifted from the trio’s Mercury Music Prize-shortlisted album of the year RELAXER, released earlier this year to critical acclaim. The band will perform at the Mercury Music Prize ceremony on 14th September.
The heartfelt and heavenly track takes lyrical cues from Richard Llewellyn’s classic 1939 novel How Green Was My Valley, and vocal drama from the massed voices of the boys of Ely Cathedral, recorded in situ with accompaniment from the building’s mighty organ. “It’s almost a secular piece of religious music,” says the band’s Gus Unger-Hamilton, a former chorister at the cathedral.
Released 2 June, RELAXER flew straight into the top 10 of the UK album chart ahead of a huge summer of UK and international shows, including a headline show at London’s O2 Arena for the venue’s 10th birthday celebrations; headlining The Other Stage at Glastonbury Festival; and headline performances at Bluedot and Boardmasters. RELAXER is the follow up to their number one, GRAMMY and BRIT Award-nominated album This Is All Yours, and their 2012 Mercury Prize and Ivor Novello Award-winning debut An Awesome Wave. Between them, the records have sold in excess of two million copies and their songs have been streamed more than one billion times.
