TUNE Sports Team - Beverly Rose
Sports Team release debut single ‘Beverly Rose’ via Nice Swan Records on 512th January 2018.
The track, which is laced with frontman Alex Rice’s sharp-witted social commentary, is the first to be taken from the band’s forthcoming ‘Winter Nets’ EP - which will be available on a limited edition 10” vinyl release.
‘Beverly Rose’ was recorded and produced with Dave McCracked (Florence and the Machine, Beyonce, Depeche Mode).
Following a recent headline tour, Sports Team are set to play their final show of 2017 at Birthdays on 8th December, before taking to the stage at Rough Trade East in the New Year.
Hailing from various parts of the country, Sports Team came together whilst studying in Cambridge, feeling the necessity to fill the void between mainstream touring artists and university cover bands. What started out as a fairly casual project, quickly developed into something bigger, gaining a loyal fanbase around campus, the band were soon putting on their own packed out shows at the sports and social bar, a charismatic spot that was an unusual concoction of working men’s club and church hall.
Channeling a bemusement of suburban cliches, young professionals & the commuter belt - Sports Team are a band with a sense of humour, their social commentary biting on the fabric of contemporary culture. In their very earliest shows they would trick Dan Zeichne into announcing them onto stage. Telling him they were much bigger than they were at the time, the shadow transport minister would come and do stump speeches before the band would blast through their 5 or 6 songs they had written at the time.
Having perfected their live sets during their years of pressureless shows away from the capital, Sports Team re-located to London in 2017 and set about writing and recording their debut EP ‘Winter Nets’. They were quickly discovered by renowned producer Dave McCracken (Ian Brown, Depeche Mode, Florence & The Machine) who caught one of their shows and instantly jumped on board, invited them down to his Hammersmith studio to get to work.
