THE MAGIC GANG TEAM UP WITH JESSIE WARE FOR NEW VERSION OF ‘TAKE CARE’
“Britain’s best new guitar band… Rarely since the age of The Beatles and The Beach Boys have songs been this sunny; rarely since the nineties heyday of Weezer has punky guitar pop been so invigorating.” – The Times
“Brighton's best exceed all expectations… a dazzling debut ready to win the world’s hearts.” **** - NME
“Their debut album is a good-humoured romp filled with crashing guitars and massed vocals… their consistent catchiness should ensure their rise.” Album of the Week – Evening Standard
“A debut that’ll be remembered as a milestone moment in years to come.” ***** - DIY
“It does what all great pop should – lift the spirits and stir the soul.” **** - Q
“Their hooky choruses are as indelible as a pier-end neon sign.” **** - The Guardian
“Both fresh and exciting, they’re a band delivered by DeLorean from a simpler, more wholesome time.” ***** - Dork
It’s been a stellar year for The Magic Gang. Their self-titled album became one of the highest-charting British guitar band debuts of 2018, charting at #12 overall and #1 on the vinyl chart. Their rising profile was further boosted by repeated support from Radio 1, nominations for Best New Artist at the NME Awards and Breakthrough Act at the Q Awards , as well as a succession of glowing reviews.
They cap 2018 by teaming up with the BRIT and Mercury Prize nominee Jessie Ware for a new version of their album favourite ‘Take Care’. Described by DIY as “a quiet banger with a razor-sharp heart”, ‘Take Care’ finds the quartet dropping the pace for a melancholy piano ballad rich with sumptuous vocal harmonies. Gus Taylor and Jessie Ware’s vocals naturally complement each other as they capture the emotions of a fading relationship.
Jessie Ware Tweeted in support of The Magic Gang in the week that their album was released, heralding them as her “new favourite band.” Subsequently introduced by their mutual friend, YALA! Records co-founder and former MaccabeeFelix White, the pair decided to collaborate on this track.
"The Magic Gang are one of my favourite bands and I feel so touched they asked me to duet with them,” says Jessie. “We met through my mate Felix White who put out their first music and since then I’ve been a massive fan. They are such a talented bunch of guys and I can’t wait to perform this with them live hopefully soon.”
"Jessie is such a brilliant songwriter, musician and vocalist,” adds Gus. “One that we've admired and followed for years! We couldn't help but send an email asking her to feature on 'Take Care'. We didn't really expect a reply, so this is pretty mad. We're so pleased to have Jessie on the tune. It was a pleasure to work with such a talented artist and hopefully we'll be lucky enough to do that again in the future.”
Having played festivals including Reading, Leeds, TRNSMT, Tramlines and Truck, The Magic Gang recently completed the biggest headline tour of their career to date. It included a packed show at the O2 ForumKentish Town which Gigwise praised as a “dazzling culmination” of their album campaign.
Already plotting plans for 2019, The Magic Gang are confirmed as one of the initial names for next summer’s Liverpool Sound City.
