TUNE GLOWS - Afterthought
South London experimental artist GLOWS releases his new single ‘Afterthought’ alongside news of his debut EP ‘JL Hooker Lover Pleasure Forever’ which is out 20th September via Slow Dance.
The track is being released with a Felix Bayley Higgens directed clip that shows GG Skips and friends exploring urban environments in a playful manner with flags that he has made to contextualise his “love of myth, red and blue, spiritual iconography, tapestry, psychogeography and journey”. The track itself uses gently pulsing drums, pitched vocals and airy pad synth chords to make ‘Afterthought’ a strange and addictive listen that manages to be both warm and unsettling.
The second half adds piano and samples to stunning effect as the groove tightens into the outro to create a euphoric tension. GG Skips on the importance of the flags to his work: “I had a period of intense visual creative block, something that although music remedied to some extent, could only go so far. The way out of it was through creating these red and blue silk tapestries, I’ve always made work in those opposing colours, I see the flags as some sort of hauntological mark of an unknown place, or tribe. I like inventing worlds and narratives.”
With his forthcoming EP and lives dates to follow shortly, GLOWS is a young, wildly gifted artist on a voyage of self discovery.
