TUNE SUNDAYS - Shade of the Pines
The Danish band SUNDAYS take you on a jorney through North Jutlandic childhood memories, greek mythology and an Icelandic fluke leading to a continental collaboration.
Lead singer and songwriter Magnus Jacobsen grew up in the suburbs of Aalborg befriending a girl 2 years older than him. This friendship was in itelf a teaching of what awaited him in life – and seeing her grow into a young woman and becoming something else than he used to know, this ultimately meant the inevitable end to their friendship.
The greek mythology comes into the picture, due to the fact that the song was written on the mythic greek island of Ithaka - the home of Odysseus. Magnus used the ancient tale as an inspiration for the songwriting process.
Meanwhile, the band’s drummer, Morten Falk was playing at Iceland Airwaves where he discovered the band Morning Bear, who had brought along a cellist- player with danish roots; Taylor Rae Jensen. He instantly knew that she was a perfect fit for a SUNDAYS sound – and so a connection was made that ended up on the new single.
