TUNE Dazy Crown - Peanut Butter Dreaming
Dazy Crown are a Norwich-based guitar-pop quartet who, after forming together at university back in 2015, have cooked up an impressive collection of lo-fi tunes that dip into the sounds of surf-rock, dream-pop, and garage-rock. ‘Peanut Butter Dreaming’ is the first single from the group’s soon-to-be-made EP, and sees the boys locking into some real catchy, groovy, and tripped-out hooks.
‘Peanut Butter Dreaming’ starts off with an instantly infectious guitar line – backed up by jazzy chords and steady rhythms – that perfectly complement frontman Thomas Little’s delicate and reverb-soaked vocals. The group’s signature love for intricate and syncopated rhythms shines through the dazed-out crescendo leading into the song’s dreamy chorus, and is rightfully accompanied by Little’s proactive and mundane lyrics.
Leading up to this latest single, the band have been playing all over the UK, appearing at The Alternative Escape in Brighton, supporting bands and artists like Declan McKenna, The Big Moon, and Trudy and the Romance, and playing numerous headline shows in London and Norwich – whilst getting well-deserved airtime and praise by Amazing Radio and BBC Introducing.
Thomas Little, the lead singer and founder of the project, had the following to say about the song:
"I usually get wrapped up in writing songs about issues and ideas that I think need attention — with previous Dazy Crown tunes tackling themes of mental health, the legality of pot, and the unrealistic idea of the ‘American Dream' — but this time round I felt like being a bit selfish. Peanut Butter Dreaming all about being back in Canada for the summer, feeling pretty depressed, and doing a bunch of weird things to try and deal with it — like watching Bob Ross on repeat all day (which is a lot more fun than you’d think). Overall, it's honestly just a collection of inside jokes with myself that I don’t really expect anyone else to understand — which is kinda fun. Most of our other songs are quite explicit in what they’re trying to address, but this one’s a bit more mysterious. It’s like my own little secret."
"Also, in terms of writing the song, this is the first one that we’ve all kinda had a big say in. Usually I come to the others with a tune that I’ve been working on and teach them their different parts, but for Peanut Butter Dreaming, I only just had a shell and a structure. James threw in his own shimmery guitar licks, Tom came up with some real groove on the bass, and Theo brought the song to life with some dynamic-heavy drumming. It’s nice to have everyone’s own flavours thrown into the pot. That’s why I think it’s our best song to date."
