TUNE Nate Connelly - The Sound Of You Stood
Soundtrack composer and producer Nate Connelly presents ‘Fragments’, set for release on new label Blurred Recordings on 31st March 2017.
“The initial idea behind this album was the broken CD. The stuttering, irritating effect you get when your disc is scratched and stuck, or your CD player is on it's last legs. What if you could take something like that and create compositions out of it? Maybe it could be the opposite of irritating, maybe it could be interesting at least, musical, or even moving. Elements which played alone might make no sense whatsoever, but as part of a larger picture work in harmony with one another - with each part completely and utterly depending on the other.
This album explores this idea while also venturing off into various musical tangents loosely related to the idea. It comprises tracks from over a period of around six years - bits and pieces which were unfinished, incomplete, or made no sense until the idea of this album came about. For me this album encapsulates the broad scope of my interests as a composer and producer.”
- Nate Connelly
Born and raised on the North-West coast in small seaside resort St Annes On Sea, Connelly started his life in music playing the drums before commandeering his brother’s bedroom studio - a set-up of sequencers, synths and a reel-to-reel tape recorder. After studying at Leeds College of Music he went into scoring films, having now scored over 20 multi-award-winning short films from all over the world.
His first major job scoring the Hong Kong horror film 'Rigor Mortis', directed by Juno Mak and produced by Horror maestro Takashi Shimizu, went on the win multiple awards including one for Best Original Soundtrack at the 14th Chinese Music Media awards. Accolades at the 2016 UK Music&Sound Awards for Best Original Composition and a Clio Award for Original Composition in Film Technique were awarded for the score to a Honda Advert campaign.
As a solo artist, his releases include 'A Dream About Being Lost'; which received glowing reviews and airplay on BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, NME Radio, and experimental long player 'Di Skyver'.
