TUNE Faten Kanaan - The North Wind
Recently signing to Fire Records, Faten Kanaan’s ‘The North Wind’ is the first single from her new album ‘A Mythology of Circles’.
A haunting and ethereal electronic composition, ‘The North Wind’ accompanying new video is a tribute to enchanted landscapes and stratified histories. To the turning of seasons and time's uncanny cycles.
The narrative unfolds: first Orpheus sings his song, then Hypnos casts his spell and the world enters an alternate dream state, where deeper insights are revealed.
“It also has an autobiographical side, a story of movement, migration, and return. Of renewing hope in the face of political and environmental struggle. The Wintery footage was filmed by Matthias Groeneveld in the Netherlands, very close to where I was born in Germany. It's both a familiar, but foreign landscape. The
Faten Monumental/Triumph Arch of Palmyra in the video was destroyed in 2015, but here represents a portal. A symbol for the enduring spirit of rebuilding and renewal.” Faten Kanaan
The new album explores cyclical repetitions in nature and time, and the allegories about them.
Inspired by cinematic forms and mythological story structures: from sweeping landscapes and quiet romances, to patterned tensions and dream sequences; Faten brings an earthy, visceral touch to electronic music. In symbiosis with technology is an appreciation for the vulnerability of human limitations and nuances.
‘A Mythology of Circles’ is set for release on 13th November.
