Kaity first got involved with us when she was just 14 years, performing cello, but it soon became apparent that there was a talented singer songwriter behind the cello ! Now 16 we are delighted to be recording her debut EP and this song is one of her popular ones live and for which she won the Young Songwriting Award at the recent Love Folk Live showcases.
It's perhaps not the done thing to describe a female folk singer as having a sexy voice, but then part of the culture of folk music is subversion, so it's a plain simple fact Kaity Rae's slightly gritty and smoky tone is just fantastic.
The way she sings It Is would probably have been banned by the BBC 40 odd years ago, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
"Kaity Rae’s voice has a different quality altogether, it sounds somehow like your own private thoughts; and I think that there must be a technical reason for that because a few moments in to the track, I realised that her voice was resonating perfectly with both the piano strings and the wires under the snare drum. The whole room seemed to be responding to her voice and asking to join in. Her guitar work, with its plucks and its slides is superb too, but she allows her voice to stand tall above it and to shimmer out and touch everything" Tamsin Rosewell
