Seeing the music industry change, evolve and attempt to keep pace with the explosion in technology in recent years, Head 13 have embraced not only the social aspects of all this new media, but also the 'Do It Yourself' ethos that the new technologies make possible.
Their aim was to create not just exciting new music, but also find a way to be involved in every step of creating, releasing and marketing their music and their brand. This led to them writing, arranging, recording, mixing and mastering their debut album entirely in-house. All of the artwork for the album, their printed promotional materials, t-shirts and other merchandise, website, their two music videos, everything was built by scratch by the band themselves.
Head 13 applied this DIY ethos to building their fan-base and marketing the band, too. Not content to rely just on the standard 'gigs and posters and word of mouth' approach favoured by most, they opened the creative process to the public, shooting weekly video blogs that exhaustively covered the making of their album, they uploaded photographs that chronicled their tour and photo shoots and video shoots. This commitment to communicate and interact with fans has led to a vibrant online presence. From their own blog and website, to Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, Head 13 aren't distant, brooding and aloof, they're engaged and actively interacting with their fans on a grassroots level.
