Someone Else To Blame2017
The Cosmic Something is the first solo project by Jemma Freeman. At 15 years old Jemma taught herself to play guitar whilst listening to her mum’s T-Rex and David Bowie records. Whilst studying fine art at Kingston University she formed ‘The Fucks’, an art rock band that gigged relentlessly. As well as featuring on an Angular Records compilation, they went on to tour Europe and were the house band in acclaimed artist Bob and Roberta Smith’s infamous ‘Art Party’ film (2014). After honing her guitar skills playing countless shows and developing an ever-growing pedal board, Jemma went on to become guitarist and songwriter in Bella Union band 'Landshapes’. Powerful lush guitar tones and introspective psychedelic lyrics bound together with an unbounded energy ‘Someone Else To Blame EP’ is a neat collection of songs Jemma has been working on since 2016. Pulling themes of hidden agendas, secret worlds, inadequacy and anxiety Jemma tells the story of unravelling completely and tying yourself back up again. With Freeman's artistic background, this was never going to be just a music release, this project sees her working in conjunction with a collection of unique artists including TopiaGould (see their work in a rather fitting artistic residency in cosmic Roswell, USA) and Matthew de Kersaint Giraudeau to create a multi disciplinary artistic collaboration. Title track ’Someone Else to Blame’ has so far seen plays on BBC Radio 5 Live, Resonance FM, Hoxton Radio and BCB Radio. 'Someone Else To Blame EP’ is available to pre-order on limited edition yellow cassette now and will be available on 20 October 2017.
