TUNE Lindsay Munroe - Split
On new single ‘Split’, alt-indie newcomer Lindsay Munroe triumphantly reclaims a part of herself she shed to accommodate the conservative religious environment of her early 20s.
In her distinctively guttural vocal that recalls Sharon Van Etten and PJ Harvey, Munroe bares bruises that still sting in an attempt to kickstart the healing process. “I split myself in two / every time I towed the line” she regrets.
Split’ builds to a staggering climax, Munroe expelling the pent-up anger that has out-stayed its welcome as her band ramp up the volume. Production comes from Chris Ham-ilton (Lump, Torres), whilst The Big Moon’s Fern Ford is on percussion. Incidentally, the London quartet gave Munroe’s ‘Mirror’ an airing whilst sitting in for Iggy Pop on BBC6 Music recently.
