‘Lighthouse’ is the beautifully ethereal debut single by Manchester-native (and Easy Kill alumni) Alf Whitby, out 29th November on My Little Empire Records. This gorgeously brittle and emotive songwriting draws comparisons to the likes of Andy Shauf and Conor Oberst; with lyrical themes of feeling lost and directionless. Whitby wrote the song as “a comfortable twenty something, ill-content with everything and scrambling to figure out who I was and where I wanted to be”. It’s a bruised narrative, ultimately about expectations and how we frame what we strive for. The combination of delicate fingerpicking and lush wailing guitar make the perfect backdrop to Whitby’s vocals, ebbing and flowing between faltering falsetto and something which feels a little more hopeful.
