TUNE Alf Whitby - Beach
Following the beautiful marker-line set with debut single ‘Lighthouse’ comes the haunting follow up from Manchester-based songwriter Alf Whitby, due for release 31st January on My Little Empire Records.
On ‘Beach’ we see a more spacious and sparse Whitby as the song ebbs and flows like fresh sea air taken in and out of the lungs. It’s a track about “time and how it affects your perceptions of the things that linger and the things that leave” and simply put, the struggle to come to terms with those different points.
With his signature falsetto over reverb guitars, bursts of glistening synths and soft, tidal pianos, it’s an emotive and contemplative listen. Whitby’s full length album (‘Sistine Dreams’) is out in March, but in the meantime this is another impressively considered piece of songwriting. What he has created here is something so incredibly vivid, yet shot in soft focus with the furthest corners just out of view.
