TUNE Nayana IZ - WALKING
Nayana Iz – one of the UK’s most explosive new talents – has shared a fresh Double A side release. Two brand new tracks – ‘Walking’ and ‘Final Hour’ are out today on Different Recordings.
19-year-old Nayana Iz introduced herself at the tail end of 2019 with ‘how we do’ – a fierce debut track (produced by Karma Kid) that instantly and confidently set the tone for what is to follow from the new NiNE8 Collective artist.
Self-proclaimed to be born in London but made in India, Nayana’s music and spirit is an amalgamation of those two cultures. Growing up in North London, her musical education was a melting pot of everything – from jazz, pop and indie through to hip-hop and soul. As soon as she could start creating her own music, Nayana knew she wanted to mix the spirit of Indian language and dance (she is currently learning Hindi as well as classical Indian dance) in with all of the different music she had been raised on and empower young girls (particularly from her native land) to find their own authentic voice and too express themselves.
Armed with this passion and drive and inspired to the reaction to ‘how we do’, Nayana now looks to continue her captivating ascent. Released today, Nayana’s double A-side includes two brand new tracks - ‘Walking’ and ‘Final Hour’ – which work perfectly together to continue the fascinating double-edged story of Nayana Iz.
Capturing two contrasting attitudes, ‘Walking’ and ‘Final Hour’ are a brilliant demonstration of how Nayana’s talent extends while never losing her distinct identity. ‘Walking’ is a hypnotic, sunshine-infused soundtrack to aimless rambling. In her own words, it’s about “that feeling when you go for a walk with no set destination to head towards… you just go where feels right in the moment. That time off where the stress finally falls off your head and you just roam and take your surroundings in without a messy mind. It puts me in that same mindset of when I was a kid and saw so many possibilities in everything I looked at, like the flowers being as tall as the tress. I used to write loads of stories those days and ‘Walking’ feels like it’s one of them.”
‘Final Hour’ tells a different and darker story – a provocative but gripping examination of the more negative sides of friendship and society that features good friend and collaborator Lorenzorsv. Nayana says, “It’s the final hour before it all changes, the new beginning. Dealt with liars and fake friends, now their reign is over… They timed our success to be short lived now theirs has run out”
