TUNE Planet 1999 - Party
‘Party’ is the latest single from Planet 1999, a London-based shoegaze outfit hailing from France. Released today by preeminent future pop label PC Music, the single is available to buy and stream on all partners alongside a video directed by Aidan Zamiri.
Expanding on the blueprints of their 90s-shoegaze-meets-bubblegum-pop sound, ‘Party’ is Planet 1999’s ode to “taking a break from a party to go outside and look at the stars.” Where their debut single ‘Spell’ was more of a slow burning ballad, ‘Party’ amps up the energy. Featuring cameos from both PC Music label head A. G. Cook and Zippy – the band’s mascot designed by visual artist Leon Sadler – the video sees the band explore and perform in evolving 3D landscapes created by Eamonn Freel. “We wanted to make a video that felt as cool and surreal as the song,” explains director Aidan Zamiri. “I think it’s the perfect starting point to enter the world of Planet 1999”. The video was part of One More Slope, a group show of upcoming artists hosted by Alexander James and the British Fashion Council. Both ‘Party’ and ‘Spell’ appear on the band’s forthcoming debut EP, due for release March 6th.
Since debuting late last year, Planet 1999 have played their first show alongside label-mate Hannah Diamond while putting the finishing touches on their forthcoming first EP. The trio also co-wrote and co-produced Charli XCX’s single ‘February 2017’ from her recent album ‘Charli’. Always aligned with their ethos – EVERYTHING IS ABOUT EMOTION – the band’s new single is the latest piece of a rich and exciting world set to unfold throughout 2020.
