Formed in 2017, Red H♥arted Vibrations came together in a rehearsal studio in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. Childhood friends Steven Nelson & Craig White wanted to form a new musical project after a lengthy absence away from the Scottish music scene. Having played in Alt/Rock band Mellifluous for 8 years, Steven & Craig began writing songs with the intention of making them catchy and upbeat from the first time audiences heard them. They spent the first 6 months writing which is when bassist Graham White joined the band. Through a similar love of musical influences as Craig & Steven – Graham began to make his own mark on the songwriting process, working very strongly on the rhythm backbone of the band.
After much time spent searching for a singer, Steven looked closer to home and asked his sister Laura Nelson to try out for the band. From the first moment she stepped into the studio, the band knew Laura was exactly what they needed to solidify their backlog of material. Having come from a strong musical background running her own karaoke nights and through musical theatre Laura was quickly able to add her own style of singing to the songs been written within the band. This created a unique line-up in the band consisting of two sets of siblings!
Now with the line-up confirmed, the band’s name Red H♥arted Vibrations was named by Steven – who took the name from Scottish poet Edwin Morgan’s poem “Scottish Fiction”, which features on Idlewild’s In remote Part song which the band are heavily influenced by.
The band cite Idlewild, Fleetwood Mac, Dixie Chicks, Death Cab For Cutie, The Xcerts & The Smiths as their influences
Laura Nelson (vocals) is Stevens younger sister. She moved to Ayr to study Musical Theatre at the University of West of Scotland which she graduated in to pursue her musical career. Laura has regularly been praised for her strong vocal performances – regularly getting reviewed for her “Dulcet tones”. Away from the band, Laura runs her own karaoke nights across the western belt of Scotland
Steven Nelson (Drums) is the founder of Red Hearted Vibrations. Having played in bands (Mellifluous, The Vibe) and ceilidh bands for 15 years – Steven commands the rhythmic structure of the band from behind the kit. Steven and Craig have shared the stage together and have supported acts such as My Latest Novel, Times New Viking, Jay Reatard, The Zico Chain, The Blanks, Munich, Sam Forrest (Nine Black Alps).

Having played bass guitar for over 10 years in a variety of different bands, Graham has performed in some of Glasgow’s biggest venues (Glasgow ABC, King Tuts & Nice N Sleazys. With similar musical tastes as Craig & Steven, Graham always contributes his own styles and ideas to help with the songwriting process and makes his prescence felt on stage with his impressive bass guitar & pedal selections!
