I have been fortunate to have studied classical guitar under many excellent teachers down the years including Neil Smith, Roger Quin, Gordon Ferries & Simon Thacker respectively. During my university studies, I also studied music theory, harmony and history with Michael Harris, Nicholas Ashton, Steven Davismoon & the late Andrew Doig respectively. I sang baritone/bass in the University Chamber Choir for three years gaining valuable performance experience. My final fourth year guitar recital included a substantial work by J.S. Bach (BWV 998) Prelude, Fugue & Allegro along with popular works by Barrios, Brower & Llobet respectively. One of the highlights of my time as an undergraduate in Edinburgh was performing BWV 998 during a University recital at St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh.
Since moving to Hong Kong upon graduation in 2007, I have built up a successful career as a well-respected and experienced primary school English teacher, having worked in the same school since 2009. Over the years, I have won numerous awards in teaching Choral Speaking, Individual Speech Festival, English Radio Drama & English Drama all of which I teach regularly.
My love of songwriting has led me to produce over one hundred songs for both children and adults since 2009 comprising two children’s albums and one album of children’s poetry as well as my work for adults.
In August 2019, I enlisted the services of producer and fellow songwriter Stephen Bull to record my charity single for the homeless, Streetsleeper. I was very impressed by the quality of the final recording and Stephen’s professionalism was impeccable throughout.
The song went on to gain recognition in numerous songwriting competitions as listed above as well as being played on numerous high-profile radio stations including Jim Gellatly’s Sunday Show on Amazing Radio. I am now working on my debut album with Stephen which I hope to release in late 2020.

EXTRA INFO: BIOGRAPHY
Early Musical Career:
Ever since my father started teaching me to play the guitar at the age of 11 I have been hooked ever since!
During my teenage years growing up in the UK, I predominantly played rock, blues, jazz, funk, soul, rnb and folk music on my electric guitar. I played in numerous bands from the age of 15 and wrote songs with fellow members. From school to college to full-time work I played electric guitar and sang backing vocals in working bands at the weekends and during holidays. These formative years in music gave me a deep understanding of the realities of the working musician.
At the age of 16 I started studying classical guitar with Neil Smith. Classical guitar is a pursuit that continues to this day! At the age of 20, I embarked on a 4-year degree in Classical music at Edinburgh Napier University and was awarded a 2:1 degree.
Over the years, I have had the great privilege of studying guitar under so many wonderful teachers. These include my father, Brian Eagles, Steve Barratt, Tony Hale, Neil Smith, Roger Quin, Gordon Ferries and Simon Thacker. I am deeply indebted to them all. Thank you
I have been writing original songs since I was a teenager. However, my first professionally arranged and recorded song was 'Far Across the Night Sky'. It was recorded in June, 2016 at AYM Studios, Hong Kong with Anthony Wong and Fion Ip and released later that year. I since went on to record another 4 songs with them comprising my debut EP Hope (Love Never Dies). My sincere thanks to them both for their help.
2017 and 2018 saw me perform at numerous venues including a spot on RTHK3 Morning Brew on 30th August, 2017 to showcase 'Far Across the Night Sky' as well as a live performance of two other songs: 'Hope (Love Never Dies)' and 'Mermaid'.
On June 26th, 2018, I was the opening act at the annual H2 Live Music Festival at The Wanch in Hong Kong. I was also one of the featured artists in Time Out magazine’s review of the H2 Festival. In both 2017 and 2018, my songs were featured on the official H2/Time Out Playlist (Far Across the Night Sky and Freefalling).
I was back on RTHK3 with three new songs on the 24th of July, 2018 including my fourth single, 'Caledonia Dreaming' released on 4th July, 2018. It has since gone on to be well received and was played on UK radio in December, 2018. (My first radio play outside of Hong Kong) and subsequently across a range of international stations in 2019 & 2020. It has also been used as advertising music for Scotland’s new NC500 tourist route website also sometimes referred to as Scotland's Route 66.
My 6th single, Streetsleeper, recorded in Scotland in August, 2019 was released on the 30th November on CDBaby and all other major digital distributors. Produced by good friend Stephen Bull & mastered by Pete Maher.
100% of any sales/streams proceeds from this track will be split 50/50 between two registered charities for the homeless: The Social Bite in Edinburgh & ImpactHK in Hong Kong. I really hope that you can purchase the song for this good cause. Together we can eradicate the awful disease of homelessness affecting millions of people across the world each day and night.
I am also delighted to announce that I performed Streetsleeper & Caledonia Dreaming live at The World’s Big Sleep Out at Central Harbourfront, Hong Kong on the 7th December, 2019. (My birthday!) It was an amazing experience and I was truly humbled to take part.
It is my hope that I can continue to grow and improve and be recognized as a songwriter and it is with this aim in mind that I hope to share my music.
If you think my music would be suitable as part of a film soundtrack, advertisement or suchlike please contact me for more details. Likewise, I am happy to collaborate with fellow artists on old or new projects in both English and Cantonese. I am based in Hong Kong and although I am a primary school English teacher by trade I am also available for projects as a classically-trained session guitarist (all styles of guitar), vocals, English narration, songwriting (a range of different styles) and composition.
