Celtic spirit, country soul.
"Scotland’s most engaging and haunting singer-songwriter… " Irvine Welsh
One of Scotland’s finest singer/songwriters, and the first Scottish musician to officially showcase at Americanafest in Nashville.
Armed with a searingly soulful voice, skillfully crafted stories and earworm-generating melodies, Dean’s music conjures the open road’s wild romanticism, whilst combining the primal sounds of two very different countries. In the songs you’ll hear the legacy of the open plains drifters and box-car jumpers, the perfume of Autumn heather, the copper burn of a single malt or a smoky late night bar-room bourbon, the unfettered enthusiasm of early rock ‘n’ roll coupled with the sympathetic delivery of folk’s storytellers.
His Whisky Hearts band – Amy Geddes, Brian McAlpine, Craig Ross, Jim McDermott and Mike McCann - is a mighty all star line-up, who can rock up a storm, with flashes of folk and a touch of twang.
Dean’s new album, his 7th - Southern Wind - is released on At The Helm Records, 16th Feb 2018. Recorded in Nashville with producer (John Prine, Jason Isbell) and featuring award winning guitarist Will Kimbrough (Emmylou Harris' Red Dirt Boys), it has a distinctive swampy groove.

He has played shows and toured with the Mavericks, Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Joan As Policewoman, John Hiatt and Nanci Griffith, and recently opened for Rosanne Cash at London’s Union Chapel (July 2015).
