TUNE Global Charming - Office Hell
Global Charming announce debut album to be released on Subroutine Records on October 9th, and share second single Office Hell.
Global Charming are a post-punk quartet emerging from the Amsterdam underground, exorcising the banality of everyday life. On their debut album Mediocre, brutal the band explore the monotony of daily routines, survival of the dullest kind; because boring is intense.
Forming in 2018 and consisting of four familiar figures (record producers and visual artists) in the Dutch underground scene, Global Charming played alongside the likes of Crack Cloud, N0V3L and Drahla in the Netherlands, before recording their debut album at the start of 2019.
Office Hell captures the sudden rush that follows when snapping out of a daydream, in this case waking up staring at a suspended ceiling. Its dragging beat stumbles into an awkward rhythm; a reminder of an inner discomfort, a sense of walking against your own will. Whilst fiercely pushing forward and simultaneously falling apart, the sly composition is a sterile resemblance of what the pointed title takes aim at. “No pictures, no injuries”.
Fuelled by the lingering energy of repetitive rhythm, Mediocre, brutal is loaded with sharp jolts and wayward guitars breaking free from frustration. Lyrics about cutlery and new coats blend with Global Charming’s lean compositions, marked by playful synths and percussion.
Mediocre, brutal was self produced and recorded at Schenk Studio, Amsterdam, and mixed by Mikey Young.
