TUNE Jockstrap - Acid
London based alternative pop project Jockstraphave today announced their signing to Warp for a new release due later thisyear and shared "Acid", the first single on their new label home.
Jockstrap’s instigators Georgia Ellery and TaylorSkye have enjoyed a remarkable 18 months since launching their 2018 debutmini-album Love Is the Key to the City andsubsequently sharing its beautifully disorienting remix version Lost My Key In The ️<3 Club ️<3 in 2019.
Ellery has starred in Cornish film BAIT (which went on to win a BIFA award and the BAFTA for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, as well as receiving a nomination for Outstanding British Film) and performed the film’s score live on 17 Jan at the BFI with Cornish-Welsh artist Gwenno. Skye, on the other hand, has developed his own much-lauded solo project, remixed the sublime new album from Arizona’s Injury Reserve (who Jockstrap toured within the U.K. last year) in its entirety and has played live keys with slowthai. Ellery has also collaborated with Underworld on their ongoing experimental project, DRIFT; both Ellery and Skye wrote and performed on Dean Blunt's 2018 Soul On Fire mixtape (also featuringA$AP Rocky & Mica Levi). Jockstrap were also asked to collaborate and perform at Africa Express’ sold-out one-off show in a circus tent in Walthamstow last year.
Speaking about "Acid" - which was also produced by Skye and features his vocals for the first time on a Jockstrap release -Ellery said, “Acid is a track for my brother. It’s expansive, vibrant and filled with love. Taylor designed this beautiful sound world: I sent him a 6/8ballad and he sent me back this otherworldly thing.” Skye adds “Georgia sent me this swooning, expressive, tender piano demo and I did my best to match it. It was real fun to produce. I feel like this is the most uplifting song we've made so far - it almost has summer vibes.”
Since Jockstrap’s inception, Ellery and Skye have set about creating the sort of intensely bubbling interest that most new bands can only dream of; Love Is the Key to theCity and Lost My Key In The ️ Club ️were praised by Loud And Quiet, Dazed (‘On The Rise’) Noisey (‘Hit List’), DIY (‘Neu’), BBC (‘Newbie Tuesday’), The Quietus, The Guardian (‘Future 50’), Notion, London In Stereo (‘In London’), Wonderland, Music Week (‘Tastemakers’)See You Mate, Fred Perry, Gorilla Vs Bear, CLASH, The Line Of Best Fit, TheFADER, BBC News and more.
