Distilling the accumulated musical influences and life experiences of a vagabond lifestyle into a blend fondly dubbed "Flamumba Rock". What started as an escape from prethreaded patterns and well walked paths to escape the expected with time turned into a bona fide sound and unique blend of rock, punk, Latin and heart.
After years of touring, albums and bands it was time to do something more personal. Nothing fancy, just personal. It all started as a spare time jam as time permitted between band commitments. From there it grew into an idea to combine everything experienced, everything gone through, everything he is. Not a tall order at all. From the early punk roots with The Negatives, to the exposure to Latin music with the Gypsy Pistoleros, to the rock n roll days with Dirty Passion. Fueled by more will then expertise and means, an idea was born. With a ratty guitar left by an ex-girlfriend, a bongo found in the trash, a trusty old bass rediscovered under the bed and a handful of buckshot poured into a plastic beer can a sound was born.
With expectations tempered the response was still surprisingly overwhelming.
With the hotly awaited first album in the pipe to be released soon "Solo El Malo" is looking to showcase their train track poetry and Latin lover swagger to a larger audience.
"At the end of the day this is what it is" remarks Nas, "i did it cause i wanted to, there was no need, demand or offers. I just set out to expel the sounds in my head. This is what happened. The overwhelmingly positive response was certainly not what i expected when i was banging on my trash chic Bongos".
