With an atmospheric and groovy sound inspired by Brazilian soundscapes, literature and music, as well as world artists like Ryuichi Sakamoto, Peter Gabriel, Caetano Veloso and Bjork, LAM is a duo of two friends that met during the music production graduation in 2007 but started a creative collaboration few months before the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, releasing their first single Deve ser doce o céu during the isolation period. Along with individual and diversified projects, they aim to explore the counterpoint of organic pallets with more synthetic rhythms and timbers.
When people decide to start a project they usually look for musicians with very similar interest and background, this is not the case with Lam, as Martinuci recalls “I knew we had certain things in common as we’ve been to university and had a few classes together. However, what attracted me was our differences, my background is much more organic songwriting, working with acoustic piano and electric guitars so Lilian would provide something fresh for me, something I would never be able to do working in a band. I felt very happy when she accepted my suggestion of joining forces to see what we could do together, so I sent her some sketches, riffs and unfinished ideas and some months later she sent me back the instrumental part of “Deve ser doce o céu” and I immediately created words and a melodic line for it and returned to her again and she gave her final touches and now it is alive and breathing in this universe of sounds.”
