TUNE Suntrapp - All The Seas
Newcastle indie-folk outfit, Suntrapp, will release ‘All The Seas’, on July 22nd. The first cut from their forthcoming debut EP, Yannina, ‘All The Seas’ is a smart, sensitive introduction to a record inspired by Neil Young’s emotive narratives and The Beach Boys’ carefree pop but most importantly, the overlooked simplicities of day-to-day life.
Warmly lilting acoustic guitar plucks cleanse and purify from the onset; soothing, organic waves of melody washing over vocalist Jake Houlsby’s soulful delivery. The pleasantly trickling intro gives way to a gush of charmingly boisterous bass and percussion; Jake’s uplifting intonation buoyed by the triumphant rhythm section and delicately picked electric guitar motif. ‘All The Seas’ is a perfectly captured polaroid of the human condition: impulsive, celebratory and cathartic in equal measure.
Suntrapp began as Jake’s response against the greyness and melancholy of his previous musical output; a positive and hopeful change of outlook from him, lyrically and melodically. Jake soon began firming up his invigorating ideas with producer and former Detroit Social Club frontman, David Burn; early demo ‘Fuel For The Fire’ secured him a spot at Generator’s Evolution Emerging showcase in May. The Yannina EP is the finished product of those sessions; a peacefully blooming record imbued with love and vitality.
Suntrapp will celebrate the release of ‘All The Seas’ with a special gig at The Pure Gallery in Whitley Bay, where Jake first came upon the art featured on the single’s cover. The launch show will see Suntrapp performing at their stripped back, delicate best before coming together as a full band for Bernicia Festival in South Shields alongside some of the region’s biggest breakthrough acts including Little Comets, Lulu James and Natasha Haws.
