Following the unexpected success of independently released single ‘Turbulence’ in late 2009, a young Oxford quintet, often compared to the darker elements of the indie spectrum, spent 2010 recording in bedrooms and cementing a reputation as a formidable live act backing up bands such as Two Door Cinema Club, The Boxer Rebellion and Chapel Club in their native Oxford and their student base in Birmingham.
Winnings hearts and minds at the BBC on a national and local scale resulted in frequent BBC6 Music airplay, an interview with Tom Robinson, a session at BBC Oxford and slots on the Introducing stages at Truck and Wychwood Festival.
The Scholars were gifted the opportunity to record a three track EP in January 2011 with Iain Gore (Mystery Jets, Starsailor, Coldplay) after being picked up by independent label Incremental Music late last year. 2011 promises to be busy for what looks to be a young and extremely gifted talent finally realising their very obvious potential.
