TUNE LUME - Edge of My Seat
On this next single LUME imagines “a search party or rescue mission out there looking to pull us out of the mud” at a time, she says, when “everyone I spoke to seemed to be stuck in a rut and on the brink of giving up”. LUME says “it’s a hopeful track, with the idea that we’ll all find contentment and clarity at some point - with whatever we choose to fight for or let go of.”
The track, co-written and produced with Maths Time Joy (Gallant, Mahalia) “started from a beat and delayed guitar over a simple bass line”, which LUME took away with her to labour over. The verses maintain an intimacy whilst still building towards something bold, hopeful and anthemic in the chorus, with LUME’s confident and captivating vocals layered throughout.
Taking influence from the dark, left-of-centre pop of Lapsley and Maggie Rogers amongst others, there’s an openness and willingness to embrace sounds and ideas from every corner in LUME’s music. On working with Maths Time Joy, LUME says “it was his idea to put those R&B vocal edits in, something I would not normally go for, but I like how they nod to a genre that I grew up with”.
