TUNE Lola Scott - crowded conscience
Straying from the usual anthemic alt-pop you’ve come to expect from Lola Scott, ‘crowded conscience’ explores and experiments with new atmospheres, sounds, and dynamics expressing the different aspects of her creative personality.
Rather than seeing this as a permanent change of genre or sonic shift, Scott sees it as an introduction: ‘I want you to see a more intimate side of my writing, a more vulnerable part of me that I want to share with you more. I’ve got a bunch of saucy bops coming too but these were a different feeling. Still me, just different days and different feelings. Maybe it’s the Gemini in me.’
Speaking about meaning of ‘crowded conscience’ Scott puts her heart on the line saying: ‘This song was written about my commitment issues and a habit of sometimes distancing myself when I get close to people. The chorus was written as two sides of your mind speaking to each other. I imagine it being like running towards someone but not getting closer to them & the feeling like when you are in a dream but you’re unable to speak or scream or make any noise. For me this could be about a struggle to express intimate emotions and then maybe you feel some progress but as soon as things get better you leave before they can get hard again.’
